Co-op Academy Delius pupils shine at Musica Spectacular

Pupils from Co-op Academy Delius wowed audiences at the annual Musica Spectacular event at St. George's Hall, on Monday, 24th March.
Celebrating the musical and artistic talents of students from special schools across Bradford, the event featured a diverse range of performances, including singing, dancing, acting and signing, highlighting the creativity and achievements of students with varying abilities.
This year’s event was extra special, celebrating Bradford as the City of Culture.
The Delius Choir sang and used makaton signing during their rendition of "Take Me Home" by The Good Citizens, a song beloved by Bradford City fans. The football club also kindly donated football shirts to be worn by pupils for their performance which were presented to them at the team’s home ground ahead of last week’s 4-1 victory against Colchester.
Following months of tuition with nonprofit organisation Project Resurgence, the Delius Dancers also demonstrated how far they’ve come in their weekly ballet lessons with co-founder and ex-Royal Ballet dancer, Martin Howland.
The ballet performance gave the audience a beautiful glimpse into the diverse abilities of the pupils, all of whom were able to participate and thrive in a ballet environment adapted to their needs.
“I’ve learned more about teaching during the months working with Co-op Academy Delius than I have in my entire career. The pupils’ amazed me every week with how they retain information and movement, and the growth in their technique was evident during the performance.
"I’m so proud of each and every one of them. This has served as a powerful reminder that ballet is for everyone.”
Assistant headteacher of Co-op Academy Delius, Aimee Helie, said: “The Musica Spectacular event is always a highlight of our year, and this year’s performance was no exception. It was an absolute privilege to see our students performing with such passion and talent.
“We are incredibly proud of how far our students have come and are so grateful to Project Resurgence and Martin Howland for his incredible tuition in the lead up to this special event.”
