Sarah Lay Wins National Governance Award

We’re delighted to share that our Head of Governance, Sarah Lay, has been named Outstanding Lead Governance Professional at the National Governance Association’s (NGA) Outstanding Governance Awards 2025.
Sarah and Ruth Agnew, Chief Relationships and Engagement Officer, attended the ceremony at the House of Commons, where the NGA celebrated the professionals who’re driving excellence in school governance across England.
These awards are the only national awards recognising the vital contributions of governance professionals, trustees and boards who make a lasting difference to children and young people. This year, 17 individuals and governing boards were honoured for their exceptional impact. The ceremony featured an address from Georgia Gould MP, Minister of State for School Standards, who praised the dedication of those shaping strong governance nationwide.
Sarah’s award recognises her outstanding leadership and innovation in strengthening governance across multiple schools, her commitment to developing others in the profession, and her focus on building effective, compliant, and collaborative governance structures that support the Trust’s strategic aims.
Reflecting on the recognition, Sarah said:
“It is a real honour to have been named Outstanding Lead Governance Professional at the NGA’s Outstanding Governance Awards 2025. It was such a pleasure to see so many colleagues, governors and trustees being recognised for their work at a fabulous awards ceremony at the House of Commons.
"As governance professionals, we know that the foundations of good governance are committed people and strong relationships, and I couldn’t do what I do without the support of our Trust, the wonderful team of governance professionals I have the privilege to lead, and the hardworking and committed governance stakeholders I work alongside.”
"This award shines a well-deserved spotlight on Sarah’s dedication and expertise. We’re incredibly proud to see her contribution recognised on a national stage!
