Bunzl Supports Academies with £237,000 Donation

Bunzl has donated more than £237,000 worth of equipment to support students across Co-op Academies Trust, alongside an additional £2,000 of resources for Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) settings.

The donation includes items ranging from printers, kitchen utensils, clocks, picture frames and practical classroom resources. And staff have been creatively repurposing items to support learning and play!

At Co-op Academy Glebe, Early Years staff have transformed some of the donated materials into hands-on learning tools. Wooden spoons are now being used as counting sticks, while magazine holders have been attached to painting easels to help prevent paint pots from spilling during activities.

Helen Maybury, Academy Community Pioneer at Co-op Academy Glebe, said:

“The Bunzl goods have been put to amazing use in our Early Years setting. The children are learning through play every day, and it’s been brilliant to see how staff have adapted the resources in creative ways.”

As part of the partnership, Bunzl has also supported the Trust’s work tackling digital poverty by donating seven Chromebooks for students to use in lessons.

Liz Garrity, Head of Community Development, said:

“We have a fantastic working relationship with Bunzl and this support has made a real difference across our academies and communities. Their generosity and commitment to helping young people is invaluable. A special thanks to Hollie Barker and Paula Griffiths for their ongoing support coordinating deliveries and resources for schools.”

Mark Speak, Divisional Managing Director at Bunzl, said:

“At Bunzl Retail Supplies, we recognise our impact on the communities we are part of. Working closely with Co-op Academies has strengthened our focus on supporting young people and local families.

Through this partnership, we’ve been able to support academy initiatives, volunteering opportunities and careers education, while also helping students learn more about Bunzl and the opportunities available to them in the future. It’s a partnership that has real benefits for everyone involved.”

The partnership reflects the shared values between Co-op Academies Trust and Bunzl - supporting communities, reducing barriers for young people, and making a practical difference where it matters most.
