Co-op Academies breakfast clubs showcased at House of Commons

The impact of breakfast clubs in supporting children, families and school communities was highlighted at a special Parliamentary Breakfast Reception at the House of Commons.

The event, hosted by Kellanova, brought together MPs, school leaders, charities and organisations from across the education sector to discuss the important role breakfast clubs play in supporting children and families.

Representing Co-op Academies Trust, Charlotte Chambers, Assistant Principal at Co-op Academy Swinton, was invited to attend as a guest speaker and share her experience of the academy’s breakfast club.

Charlotte spoke about how breakfast clubs provide much more than a meal before the school day. At Swinton, the breakfast club offers students a warm and welcoming start to their morning, with opportunities to spend time with friends, take part in activities and develop important social skills.

She also highlighted the practical support breakfast clubs provide to families, helping parents and carers with wraparound childcare and making it easier for them to manage their working day.

Charlotte’s contribution gave those attending an insight into what breakfast provision looks like in practice and the difference it can make to the daily lives of students and their families.

The Trust’s Community Team also used the event as an opportunity to build connections with organisations and potential partners, with further conversations already planned to explore opportunities to support our academies.

Liz, Assistant Principal at Co-op Academy Swinton, said:

“Charlotte painted a vivid picture of what our breakfast clubs really mean to our communities. They provide vital wraparound support for families, while also creating a warm and inclusive environment where students can develop their social skills.

“It was fantastic to see Charlotte represent Co-op Academy Swinton and showcase the dedication of our staff and the positive impact our breakfast club has on students and families.”

The event was a valuable opportunity to celebrate the work taking place across Co-op Academies and highlight how our academies continue to support not only students’ education, but the wider needs of their communities.
