Belle Vue students take part in football day with Salford City FC Foundation
Students at Co-op Academy Belle Vue enjoyed a day of football and professional coaching thanks to a partnership with Salford City FC Foundation.
The session was part of the nationwide initiative between Kellogg’s and EFL in the Community, giving students the opportunity to get active and try a range of football activities outside of their usual lessons.
Three coaches from Salford City FC Foundation worked with students throughout the day, running mini-matches, football tennis, 9-a-side games and penalty shootouts.
The activities gave students the chance to develop their football skills while also working on teamwork, communication and confidence. Students of all abilities took part, including some who don't usually play football.
"The matches were fantastic! I don't usually play football, so getting outside and taking part was a great experience. I really enjoyed myself and feel like my skills improved so much today."
The penalty shootout was a particular highlight, with students putting their skills to the test in front of their classmates.
"The penalty shootout was easily the highlight. Both goalkeepers were top-tier, but I managed to slot mine into the back of the net to secure the win. Overall, the matches were great to play in."
PE teacher Mrs Plant said the day was a great opportunity for students to experience professional coaching:
“A day like this for students is a great opportunity for them to experience professional coaching. It broadens their horizons, gets them working on their communication skills, and allows them to show off their talents!”
Daryl Tomlinson, Regional Community Development Manager, added:
“The partnership between Kellogg’s and the EFL is giving Co-op Academy students the chance to get out of the classroom environment and take part in physical activity beyond their normal curriculum. Within the session, not only do the students develop their football skills, but they enhance their leadership, teamwork and resilience.”
For the coaches from Salford City FC Foundation, seeing students support each other and grow in confidence throughout the day was an important part of the experience.
Cameron, a coach from Salford City FC Foundation, said:
“Watching the players back each other, push through tense moments like the penalty shootouts, and walk off the pitch with newfound confidence is what days like this are all about.”
