Co-op and Kellogg’s serve up an inclusive Sports Day for Co-op Academies Trust

Students from across the Trust come together for a Secondary Sports Day, made possible by a unique partnership between Co-op, Kellogg’s and Manchester City in the Community.
The event at Co-op Academy Failsworth was attended by more than 100 students and designed with accessibility and inclusion in mind with students competing in a range of adaptive sports and challenges.
Students enjoyed a wide range of activities including blind football, backward frisbee and the classic three-legged race.
With a focus on teamwork, resilience and fun, the event celebrated inclusion and participation over performance. It was a celebration of community and cooperation, reflecting the values of our Trust. Year 9 student Emma from Co-op Academy Priesthorpe, said: “It was a really fun day and it was good to work as part of a team with everyone involved. It was nice to be able to see the other students from across the Trust too.”
As well as recognising sporting performance and teamwork, prizes throughout the day were also awarded for resilience and perseverance.
Jo Newsome, Co-op Academies Trust Regional Sports Event Coordinator, said: “The event was fantastic. It allowed all students involved to be immersed in different and unfamiliar sporting events.
“This tested their resilience and their ability to support each other in team challenges. It would be brilliant if we could replicate this next year and maybe even meet once a term for even more adaptive sporting events.”
The event, facilitated with help from Co-op, was made possible through support from Kellogg’s and their partnership with Manchester City in the Community, one of over 70 football club charities Kellogg’s supports through its Kellanova social impact work.
Andrew Ridge, Social Impact and Responsibility Manager at Kellanova, said: “Kellogg’s were really proud to support the Secondary Sports Day at Co-op Academy Failsworth in partnership with City in the Community. The students tackled every event with energy and enthusiasm, showing real competitive spirit.”
Co-op Academies Trust is dedicated to creating enriching, student experiences beyond the classroom that help students build confidence while celebrating cooperation and community.
