Eco Conference 2025

Last week, students from across Co-op Academies Trust came together for two days of environmental action at our annual Eco Conference.
Led by colleagues from Co-op and visiting CIC fairandfunky, pupils from our secondary and primary academies shared their school eco-projects during a two-day conference held at 1 Angel Square, Manchester.
From wellbeing spaces and wildflowers to campaigns tackling litter and improving biodiversity, our pupils proudly presented the ways they’re creating positive change.
During the events, pupils presented updates on their progress with their eco projects and learnt more about biodiversity with fairandfunky, a CIC organisation who focusses on sustainability education through interactive and creative initiatives. Using recycled materials, pupils created bird feeders, insect hotels and even had a go at using a bicycle to power a blender to make their own fruity smoothies.
Hannah Marchant-Collier, Co-op’s Social Value & Community Engagement Advisor, said: “It was fantastic to see our academies come together to tackle climate change. The projects on show were inspiring and a real credit to the students leading them.”
"We were especially inspired by the impactful eco-projects our academies are involved in and the positive change they’re driving in their communities.
"Children from Eco Clubs presented and shared what their academy had focussed on this past year, from wellbeing gardens, wildflower habitats and the joint efforts to help tackle litter, we heard about lots of brilliant and inspiring initiatives. Well done to everyone who took part."
"We love working with all the students from Co-op Academies Trust, their enthusiasm and care for the planet is infectious and we welcome the opportunity of sharing just how important the actions they take in school are.
"Together we took part in a BIG GREEN QUIZ to discover the huge impact of tiny actions. Using waste, students then created a juice carton birdfeeder to enhance their local environments and create discussion around waste and biodoversity.
"Our workshops empower the young people with the knowledge that their little steps change the world; and with the birdfeeders they carry the re-think, re-use, re-purpose, re-duce messages into their school and wider communities."
